Stub — the City Morgue in Glebe (formally NSW Department of Forensic Medicine / NSW Health Pathology Forensic Medicine) is where post-mortem examinations for deaths in Sydney were conducted throughout the period covered by this project. Bodies from across the project’s cases were taken here; families came here to identify the deceased; and forensic pathologists — including Dr Thomas Oettle (Mark Stewart, 1976) and Dr Peter Russell (Paul Rath, 1977) — conducted their examinations at this site.
The Sackar Inquiry issued summonses to the Department of Forensic Medicine (DOFM) in multiple matters, seeking post-mortem reports, photographs, and CT images. DOFM records proved to be one of the more reliable institutional sources — in several cases, DOFM produced material that the NSWPF had failed to locate or retain.
The historic mortuary building on Parramatta Road dates from 1897.
