Hilton Hotel Sydney

Stub — the Hilton Hotel on George Street, Sydney CBD, was the last confirmed location of Mark Stewart. He checked into room 3117 on the evening of 9 May 1976, telling the receptionist he intended to stay for two nights. His personal effects (British passport, clothing, toiletries) were recovered from the room on 13 May 1976 and used to formally identify his body. No wallet or money was found in the room.

The Hilton is also significant in the Mark Stewart case for another reason: Strike Force Parrabell incorrectly conflated it with the Chevron Hotel (Macleay Street, Potts Point), concluding the two were the same establishment and thereby failing to consider a possible connection to the Chevron Hotel’s Quarter Deck Bar — a well-known gay venue.
