Frederick Hanson served as Commissioner of Police from November 1972 to December 1976. His tenure fell in the years immediately preceding the emergence of the modern gay rights movement in Sydney, and preceded by only two years the first Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras. Male homosexual acts remained criminal offences throughout his tenure, and enforcement against gay men at beats and in public spaces continued under his command. No specific documented statements or LGBTIQ-related policy decisions by Commissioner Hanson have been identified for this project at this stage.

Tenure dates sourced from Wikipedia: List of commissioners of the New South Wales Police. Wikipedia is used for reference only; substantive claims are sourced to primary documents cited elsewhere in this project.
