Mal Lanyon became Commissioner of Police from October 2025, succeeding Karen Webb. He takes up the role following the completion of the Special Commission of Inquiry into LGBTIQ Hate Crimes (SCOI) and the NSW Government’s formal response to its recommendations in October 2024. His tenure begins during the implementation phase of those commitments, and his force carries responsibility for any further investigations identified by the SCOI and accepted by government. As the most recently appointed Commissioner, his engagement with the outstanding SCOI recommendations will be a matter of ongoing significance for this project.
